Just heard that some one I know was watching the children of some friends. One of the little girls had hair hanging in her face. Without said little girl's mother knowing much less OKing, the babysitter CUT THE LITTLE GIRL'S HAIR. It was bothering the babysitter.
Yep, you heard it correctly. Needless to say she is no longer allowed to watch the little girl in question. I can see if the girl had gotten a huge piece of gum in her hair or something so horribly tangled in it that there was no other way to get it out. Keep in mind that this person, who has her own children, has no haircutting skills. I've seen the results of her kitchen cuts. Not great.
What would you do if this were your kid? Would you ever do this to some one in your care? Come on be honest. I'll only judge you a little! :)

Definitely not a good idea. If it's really an issue, how about a barrette or something.
Nope, not ok. Even if it was gum or candy, the other parent has a right to decide how to handle it. I too, would not let her watch my children anymore. Once it is already cut, not much else you can do tho but let her know you were not happy about it.
Wow...It never ceases to amaze me at the lack of common sense nowadays. I got upset when my MIL decided to cut my Schnoodle's bangs without asking. I certainly would be upset if it were my child. (of course, it didn't help my MIL's case that she then lied and said she didn't as if we couldn't see the difference in the longish perfectly even bangs the dog had when we left the house and the hack job she had done by the time we returned.)
If it had been my child I would not let her watch my child again because the woman obviously doesn't understand boundaries or impulse control. (Which is also my MIL's problem)
i would be FURIOUS!! It was BOTHERING HER? are you KIDDING? caps caps and more caps. Ridiculous. I'd fire her too - and probably have a real rough time ever being friends again. May sound trivial - but that's beyond selfish -
Ladies, I feel the same way. I couldn't believe it when I heard the story. I keep hoping to hear it wasn't true. All I can think is, man, what a pair of cojones!
WHOA! That is so far over the line it's not even funny. ("The line is a dot to you!" to quote Joey on Friends!) Seriously crazy and not cool. And emm, who is this, anyone I know????
That is definitely not acceptable. Although, I can't help thinking that I really hope the mom didn't freak out over it in front of her kid, because really, its just hair and will grow back. It could be too easy to send your daughter the wrong message where she ends up thinking what's wrong is the way her hair looks, or that she has been somehow "violated" and victimized. That said, it's not about whether the damage is "permanent" but that in our society, a child's appearance is an extension of the parents and it is not acceptable to change it unless you ARE the parents. I can imagine it must feel as if this person cut off the mother's own hair without her consent as well.
